Default short shots

Hi guys! Usually hang out on the Rushmore thread but looking at buying a wideglide. The bike I'm looking at has v&h short shots on it. While cranking the bike it sounds like someone's pulled the plugs out of it. Sounds ok once cranked. Don't know if the baffles are in or not. Is this a normal characteristic for these pipes?

Could use more info. Year of bike, carb or FI? Any kind of tuner? Are there any mods to the motor, does it have compression releases(could be the sound you hear)?
It's easy enough to see if the baffles are in or not.
It's harder to tune short pipes like those and they tend to be very loud, with or without baffles.

When cranking it sounds like the plugs are out? Sure it doesn't have compression releases on it?

Not absolutely sure, but I don't think so. Talked to some of my friends who are running these pipes and they all tell me that what I'm probably hearing is the compression without any back pressure. I believe the baffles are out.

Those Short Shots are low and mid range performance killers, if you do buy the Wide Glide consider adding some DK Custom Products Thunder Torque Inserts. The TTI's are designed to bring back the low and mid range torque by increasing exhaust gas velocity and scavanging. The Thunder Torque Inserts will also deepen the tone of the pipes removing that bright brassy sound you hear in the Short Shots.

Your Short Shots with baffles removed would use a W158 TTI to get the most improvement in your lows and mids.

This video lets you hear the differences with TTI's in and out on the Short Shots

Mine never sounded like what you described. Yes they are a bit harder to tune or maybe not harder, but take longer but a decent dyno guy can get them tuned pretty damn good, my guy did

Thanks. I'll run it by my indy. He put a good tune on my flhtkl. Think I may also try the thunder torque inserts as well.

Which configuration works best with your product? Baffles in or out?

Baffles out

Baffles out, a DK Custom Products W158 TTI and you'll have a much deeper tone to the pipes without the bright raspy overtones and the low and mid range torque will be improved.
