I took the kickstand off and was looking at the spring when I noticed that the strike plate on the kickstand stops when it hits the stop plate on the bike. Well I noticed a groove near the bike frame that the strike plate goes into when you raise the stand. In other words when the bike is leaned on the stand the strike plate rests in that groove unable to go in either direction as long as the weight of the bike is on the kickstand.
I got down on the garage floor and took a look at mine, as well.
My stand has a rib on the top it, that fits into a kind of detent.
(We may be describing the same things, but in different terms) lol
Anyway, I feel better about my stand now; though I still believe these things should be oriented a few degrees past 90, in order to make them a bit more secure.
