Default Toys are coming!

Pretty stoked. My J&S Jack is arriving today. I got my front turn signal relocation kit. I am going to do that myself as my first project. I'm just getting started on wrenching on my ride.

I ordered the LA Choppers Twin Peaks 8 inch bars. I am not sure I will be doing that myself or paying a local Indy to do it for me. I'm leaning towards the Indy but reserve the right to change my mind. I figure dropping these bars on the stock adjustable risers should work well for me. This is what they look like

Lastly I ordered the Bassani Road Rage 2>1 and a Screamin' Eagle Ventilator. Last on my list is a DK Customs external breather kit for the Ventilator. I was trying to find anything else but the SE but I like the low profile look and I like the eagle logo. Fun times and finally pulling away from stock. I already have a V&H FP3 to take care of the fuel. I'm sure I'll be asking questions when I start these.

Interestingly enough Bassani told me I could use the existing gaskets for installing the RR. DO you think that's ok?

Congrats. I would replace the gaskets with new ones, once the old ones are compressed a seal can't be guaranteed especially with different headers. Gaskets are cheap and can save you the headache of dealing with exhaust leaks.

Congrats!

I would agree, for $10 give yourself peace of mind and get new gaskets. Have you gotten your service manual yet? Worth its weight in gold for torque values alone.

Like you I started to wrench on my own when I bought the bike. Very few items I haven't touched yet. Lots of resources available. The bars are not very difficult if planned out properly, especially on the newer bikes which don't require de-pinning the wires. In case you decide to do it on your own here is a link to my install thread.

have fun and be safe!

Thanks man that is really helpful! Yes I have the service manual so we're all good there. It's a better reference than I thought it would be.

I figured as much. I was surprised he actually suggested using the existing gaskets. Thanks!

I went back to the email from Bassani and the guy said (in reference to replacing the gaskets) that I can replace as long as they're the "flat kind" so the pipe can pivot in the port a little. I am assuming this will work http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ust-gasket-kit

The 2 types of HD gaskets, flat and tapered, are made for different headers. The tapered ones are usually used on the newer pipes but not always...if you look carefully at your header ends you should be able to determine which kind is best. If in doubt, I would try the tapered first and just see if they will fit over the header ends by hand, if so - use them, they seal better.
