I don't see where they are in conflict nor do they suggest what the OP is questioning. My understanding is the OP believes the fluid should be applied until it is level with the bottom of the cover (derby cover, is my guess). Which well above the diaphram spring as you can see in the pic below.

I put the 26 in it like Harley says, see what happens documented it well so if need a warranty claim that's on Harley.

I don`t see the conflict here, the manual says the oil must be visible in the bottom of the chain case, it does not say the lube must be up to the bottom of the clutch (like some of us geezers have been doing).

If you can see the lube in the bottom of the chaincase, you have enough.

26 oz will get it done.

The pic in my manual shows the level even with the clutch spring retainer...within a hair of the opening. I don't really measure the amount I add, but just make it look like the picture.

I don't understand what would be different. I believe that my manual calls for 1 quart on my '00 RG.

My Clymer manual for my '06 FXDCI says 32 ounces (1 quart).
