Hello all changing my fluids all went well however went to refill my primary and call for 24oz which should be at the bottom of the cover. I out 28 in so far and not even close to bottom? 2005 dyna lowrider, any thoughts, not leaking anywhere
You don't have a service manual do you? (If you put in 1/2 gal it might be at the bottom on the derby cover when the bike is level)
It will be near the lip of the derby hole only when on the side stand, leaning over.
I looked and sure enough, every place I looked says 26 oz. and that's just not correct if you want the oil level to just touch the bottom ring of the clutch basket.
32 oz. have been going into mine for the past 156,000 miles with no issues - Even my clutch is still original.
Maybe it's the most widely distributed misprint in history because 36 oz would just touch the basket on a Dyna / Softail. The link below says 32 oz and I'd fill it to where the oil level needs to be and don't worry about the numbers.

"With vehicle standing upright, not leaning on the jiffy stand, the lubricant level must be visible in the bottom of the chaincase and must not be any higher than the bottom of the diaphragm spring."
"Pour 26 ounces (0.77 liter) of Harley-Davidson PRIMARY CHAINCASE LUBRICANT (Part No. 99887-84 quart or 99886-84 gallon) through the clutch inspection cover opening."

You do understand that those two sentences are in conflict, right? That's why the OP posted his question.
In the link (Post 8) they note the same thing and recommend 32 oz. (I'm certain that HD techs just dump a quart in there too, since you're paying for a quart anyway. You can always call a Dealer on Monday btw.)You'll need some pri
It'll run on 26 oz, I'm sure. It's just not going to touch the bottom of the clutch basket. As long as the chain 'flings' it, it'll do the job.
