I just got to 275 miles on my Street Bob. I have ordered the SE slip ons and Stage 1 kit. I have been told by dealership types that I have to put on a Race Tuner ($370-$450 plus labor to tune) if I change the exhaust and air cleaner. Is this true? Is there anyone outhere that has a '06 DYNA that has done exhaust and air cleaner that can help me out?[:-]
I've got an '06 Dyna Super Glide Custom with the Stage 1 air cleaner and SE slip on slash down mufflers. You do need to buy the download to reprogram the EFI, but you don't need a race tuner. The download was around $150.
From everything I have read, you do not need the race tuner kit. You need the stage 1 download at about $150. I purchased a new Wide Glide in August with SE slip-ons, SE air cleaner, and the stage 1 download. It runs like a champ. The dealer will attach your bike to a laptop and press a few buttons and off you will go. I believe the Stage 1 will allow your motor to rev a little higher and it will change the FI/ignition map to take advantage of the SE upgrades. Personally, I am saving my penneys for a Power Commander so that when I upgrade again (Vance and Hines Big Shot Staggered pipes and maybe a 95" motor) I can get the most out of those upgrades.
This is killing me.....Where are you all getting these 06 SEII's??? They have HD slip ons out, but from what I can tell from research and talkingto dealer/mechs, there are no SEII2 for the 06???????? Do the say SE II on the slip on????
The SEIIs are in the Screaming Eagle catalog. I just installed them on my 06 SuperGlide and they sound real nice. The inscription on the Pipes is "Screaming Eagles II." I installed the 80293-99A. Here is the link to the catalog....

Don't poo poo the Race Tuner, I did the SEII's and high flow air filter with all the downloads. Bike runs great, like a totally different bike. If you have the dough it may be worth it.
I'm not dumping on the Race Tuner, I know it will really tune up the EFI and help with horsepower. I just wanted to know if it was an absolute requirement like the dealership was telling me, and from what I have found out from forum members who have had the work done on their 06 Dyna's it's not. I just not looking to spend that kind of money right now. Maybe down the line if I decide to do a 95" kit or other major engine work I'd definetely do the Race Tuner. Thnks for the input.
