Default adjusting Progressive 412 11" shocks

Hello all,
I recently picked up a pair of used progressive 412 11" shocks for my 09 FXDF. I believe the stock shocks are 12". After installing them, I sat on the bike and the suspension compressed some, then rebounded with a clank. It would appear that when I compress the shock and it rebounds, it hits it's full extension with a little bit of oomph. They ride just fine and I am happy with them for the most part, except when I hit sharp bumps, it rebounds and does what I just described - does this mean that the shock is maybe set too stiff for my weight? (I'm about 220 lb) Its almost like there is a stop at full extension and I'm hitting it. Odd thing is, if it is set too stiff, it doesn't jar me or anything, just goes bangs when it hits the top.

I think I'll be putting them up for sale though - I'm not a big fan of how the bike looks with them on it...

So I check and they are set to the stiffest setting. Would adjusting it to a softer setting alleviate the topping out?

I think that all these Harley shocks top out when there is no one sitting on it. I don't think it is supposed to make that noise though. You should contact the manufacturer.

That was my next step. I watched last night, with me on the bike, the springs compress maybe 1/4". Doesn't seem like much.
