I just grabbed the regular bolts at Home Depot, are the strong enough?
I ordered some metric bolts the same size as the stock metric bolts except longer. That way I didn't need to drill the holes out any bigger. I bought some extra washers and stacked three or four to act as spacers to give me about half an inch extra spread to the lift bars. I also notched the front lower bar where the jiffy stand spring attachment nub was preventing from sliding it under all the way.

Make sure they're grade 8 or the metric equivalent, then you should be fine.

I've just completed the lift mod but it seems the rear pad will still be on the oil pan. Is the pad supposed to miss the pan all together, or is it fine that it will be resting on it as long as it's sturdy and strapped down?

Not exactly something I'd do

You're going to need to use additional spacers to get more distance between the lift pads; you lift on that pan and you'll not be very happy with yourself.

I did these shenanigans on several cheap lifts for my Dyna's; I finally wised up and bought a J&S lift. The two smartest things I've bought for my new Dyna is a Power Vision and a J&S lift...

I recently modified my red Craftsman i've owned for 15 years, but had to add some washers to space the supports out further than what is shown on the Youtube video to get it to work and clear my kickstand on my 2011 FXDC. Other than that it works like a charm and will still work on my wifes 600 VLX and a Vulcan 750.

Just finished modding mine. Had to use 7in bolts and 1.5in spacers and also did some grinding on the 2 brackets that the jack pin pushes up on. The grinding of brackets lets the jack go a little lower, I still have to push it down a little with my foot as I slide it under the bike but at least I don't have to mess with driving it on some wood blocks.

^^This guy gets it!

I had the red Sears Jack and the rubber things you pop on the frame that Harley sells, and that's an ok setup, but the Sears Jack wouldn't fit under my Street Glide, so I bought a Harbor Freight lift that seemed like it was well built, but lowering the bike was way too scary fast so I bought a J&S lift, and it works great, on BOTH bikes. I still use the Sears lift and the frame bumper things to get it off of the floor in the winter, but I use the J&S for everything else.

Also, the Power Vision. That's great too
