Default Any suggestions on lifts?

Just needing something to lift the bike high enough to do work on. Any suggestions? I saw HF has a few kinds around $100 and figured using some ratchet straps to hold it onto the jack I should be fine? If so would this work if I were to take the front or the rear end apart (installing shocks and redoing forks)

Thanks

Buy once, cry once. Get a J&S! Without modding the HF lift you'll need to use lift adapters and a ****-load of straps; even modded, it's a sporty proposition.

J&S; believe me, this thing is expensive, but it is all that; I don't trust my ride to anything else; she lives on that lift when we're not rolling out

If you can afford it, basically nothing will beat the J&S lift in any category except price. But it will provide most of the functionality of a jack and a lift table, with serious stability. I tried to save money by purchasing a Sears jack first... That ended up costing me money, since I finally realized that I really wanted the J&S... I should've just bought it first!

Otherwise, search for the thread called something like "Sears Red Jack Modification" or something like that... It explains what mods will make a Sears of HF jack acceptably stable when lifting a Dyna.

I've also used the HD frame blocks (about $45 from a dealer) with an unmodified Sears jack, which does work reasonably well. But the stability is nothing like using a J&S.

Ha, TinCup... We were typing at the same time!

I'm glad you talked me into this thing every time I walk into my garage!

And I am too, my friend The J&S is the best you can get. These bikes are expensive and a cheap lift is right out. Your bike and mine are safe and stable, we can work on them and have no fear of that horrible 'Don't be like Dave' thread when his bike fell off the lift.

Enjoy; and I'm raising my glass of Captain Morgan 1671 rum to you

I would do the same, if I wasn't still at work (and it would probably be Lagavulin 16yr)!

Buy the damn J&S!

I didn't buy the oil drain pan; I'm still doing my fluid changes with her on the garage floor. No hardship there, and I question if the dolly works with a Dyna. More evidence needed there.

Every time I see your Wide Glide up on that Rube Goldberg setup you use I wince; now you're installing an S&S 110" kit. I so don't want to see your beautiful beastie on her side; seeing those images of your first Wide Glide and her fate were bad enough...

J&S is what I have, too. Amazing stability and you don't have to use straps on the bike. Glides around easy when it's up in the air and there are large turn screws to keep if from NOT gliding when you don't want it to.

Still wish I had a full blown lift table, but I'm not Mr Moneybags, so the J&S will have to suffice.

Use some common sense
