I daily my 03 Wide Glide, and have taken it on 500 mile plus trips. I second the mustang seat upgrade. As for mid pegs, never needed them as I can position my heels, and outside edge of my feet on pegs.

Now I will say this, after the wife joined in on a 1300 mile round trip, she would never do it again on the Wide Glide, and we have the wide touring mustang seat. So we now also own a 2012 Ultra Limited just for 2 up riding.

My WD has stock rear suspension, and progressive front inserts. I still take it on the guys camping trips and leave the Limited at home.

Sorry for the long post.

I tried my dads soft tail & it just didn't feel right to me. Tried the low rider & was hooked. Much more comfortable but still able to ride (somewhat) aggressively.
However...I've taken it on a few short trips and even with my more padded "two person" seat it's kind of hard on the tail bone (lol) Don't think I could take any long road trips.
You and I were in the same boat...GSXR750 at 18, (insert plethora of liter plus bikes here) and just traded my Hayabusa for the Dyna. It took a long time to get here.

The Softtail was the reason I did not go HD sooner, and my first LR experience convinced me to put down childish things

My brother just picked up a 2016 breakout. Yesterday actually. I took it for a ride. Ummmmm for a brand new $20,000 bike, it rode like crap. Vibrate like crazy. Even at 60 mph down a smooth highway, that thing vibrated like crazy. Went back, hoped on my 2002 wide glide. Wow. Mine rode like a Cadillac. And my is a CVO. A little rougher ride than a stock one cause of the lowering kit in it.
