Fair enough! The new Dynas are definitely a big cosmetic improvement over the older ones. Lots of cleanup in the details. I'd really like to get my hands a 49mm dual disk front end for my old bike.
I just wish the components were a bit nicer. The newer parts I've handled were considerably thinner/lighter than the equivalent pieces on my '99.
It's a sporty look in my opinion and I think it goes with the FB's look. And hey, if it helps my position then great.
... sure.
cast your net far and wide, be willing to travel and you'll have no shortage of bikes to find. buying new is not always the best move. the bikes don't change much from year to year. take your time.
example. my own purchase awa a 2013 wide glide in 2015 at 10.5k. new it was 16K. that's 5.5k i saved.... that buys a lot of parts and accessories.. you dig?
The biggest thing is the message you project. Let them know you're looking for the best quote, but dealers are smart...you have to let them know that you're ready to buy at their shop if they cut you the right deal. If they think you're just there to kick tires and not ready to buy that day if the right bike and numbers are presented, they won't bother with you.
I totally agree with you. You've got to be serious about buying AND about walking if need be. Wouldn't be the first time I said no-way to a salesman.

Agreed. Used to be every Dyna had the same general look...back when I bought my 2008 FXDB the MoCo was all "Dark Custom" this and that, but every bike except the Wide Glide still had the same square tail light and was just a parts bin mix of chrome vs black.
Wasn't til the FXDF that they really tried a look that I considered a departure, with the fat front tire and those mags (and actually using dual disc brakes, finally!!), and they've been headed in a good direction ever since. I think each Dyna looks more unique to itself than ever before, so even though we buy a bike and swap out all the parts, or bitch about whatever styling cues we might not like on a new bike, I do think the last 5 year run or so has been more visually appealing than ever.
Found that guy on CL today. Most others are 12k'ish. I'd rather buy new than spend 12 on a used bike.
Consider the mods carefully. Do some research on what you are likely to change yourself with a new bike. Pipes, seats, bars, ACs, & wheels are all quite expensive....because everybody changes them first thing.
If you can find an older bike with a couple grand in parts you woulda bought anyway, it may help soften the blow.
If you go new, remember the invoice won't include those mods. (unless you can talk the dealer into including them)
I dont think i'll be allowed to spend ANY additional money on whatever I buy this year. lol.
What are things to look for on an 09-10 Fat Bob. Any common issues? Bring a buddy to help check it over or take it to a dealer for an inspection? I don't trust myself to inspect beyond the cosmetic.
I've got a pretty good relationship with my salesman/dealer. Me and my dad have both bought bikes from him multiple times and it's a straightforward deal. No bullshit no time wasting and really no haggling. He gives us a very fair trade on our bikes and let's us know how far below sticker he can go on a new one. I trust him and consider him a friend. I was sold on him when I bought my first harley. I really wanted a candy orange iron 883 and there weren't any in the state that would swap to my dealer. He finally found one and got up on his day off and took the trailer 500 miles round trip to pick up my bike and deliver it to me.
Wanted to say thanks to all who chimed in. As of this afternoon I'm the proud owner of an '11 Fat Bob. I'm very pleased with the deal I got which is allowing me to go Stage 1 and stay in budget. If I can make up my mind on the pipes that is. Big Radius 2-2 in black or 2-1 in Chrome.
