lmao im thinking if he knew exactly where it was leaking from, he wouldnt be posting a question. my guess would be a burr in the case when you installed it or the cover is warped some. I have seen them do that in time. twice actually. replaced the cove and never leaked again

Have a look where your shifter rod passes through your primary cases, if you don't have forward controls. Internally where the front and back cases join to create tunnel for the rod to pass through, there should be a gasket (I think it is called a tower gasket which is made from a slightly thicker material than the usual primary cover gasket). My primary was leaking after I had some work done on it, and I found the mech hadn't replaced this gasket with a new one and it was leaking. It sort of looks like a washer made from gasket material and is adhesive on one side.

Take the primary cover into the kitchen & lay it on your wife's nice granite counter top. Check to see if it's flat and has any gaps.

Clean the primary really good and take it for a good ride. Bring it back and watch to see where exactly the oil is coming from...not just dripping from. Use an inspection mirror if you need to. You'll just be shotgunning the issue unless you identify exactly where the leak is... and it could be a distance away from where the puddle on the ground is.

Check your shifter shaft seal, the shaft goes into the transmission. The trans.oil leaks past the seal and blown onto the inside of the inner primary case and will dribble down to the area of the primary drain plug.

It could be the oil seal on the inner primary cover, #8 in this link http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....CASE%20HOUSING

OR

It could be one of the seals coming from the tranny behind the inner primary cover, #16 or #32(?) in this link http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....0SIDE%20COVERS

I have a pretty severe leak also that has taken me 6 months to figure out where it was coming from. Not even the dealership mechanic could be sure. I finally have it pinpointed to the inner primary seal. The way I finally figured it out as that being the culprit is, I kept checking fluid levels in all three holes. I finally found that the primary is the one that is constantly having to be refilled. The tranny and the primary oils are *NEVER* black or dirty on my bike, and the oil that leaks is nice a clear. Just to make absolutely certain though, I'm going to add a few drops of red food coloring to my primary the next time I have to refill it (the only problem this will cause though is that all the oil that sprays all over the underside and small portions on the top of the tranny and kickstand will be stained red, and I don't think food coloring washes off, heh. Oh well, it'll make for a unique looking bike!
