Default 2006 Super Glide custom...

Buddy of mine just bought this bike today. I thought it was Fi but it has a carb. He doesn't know a thing about motorcycles but he really liked this one. He asked me to take it for a ride for him. It was rough running because of old gas. It mostly sat for 2 - 3 years. Anyway, most of the old gas was syphoned out and I filled it with Hi-test. It idles better and runs great. Original pipes with Screaming Eagle slip ons. Lots of back firing during decal.

I don't know any history of the bike so it could have an exhaust or intake leak or I'm thinking it might be the open mufflers that may not have had the carb tuned to add more fuel. Could be running lean. Front pipe heat shield is lightly golden colored.

Another thing I noticed, and this may just be me, but when going into a low speed turn, like turning at the end of the street, the bars want to pull into the turn. Almost have to fight it to keep it from pulling to the stop. Rides great in a straight line. I'm riding a '93 E-Glide so completely different ride for me.

Anybody have any ideas of things I should check for him? He doesn't even have a license yet. He's booked a safety course for later this month and then licensing.

Thanks for any info.

Glenn

You sure it's an '06? As far as I'm aware, every '06 Dyna was EFI.

Not sure about all 06 Dynas being EFI but could be as they seem a year ahead on other models .. I do know of several 06 Touring and Softail Models that were Carbed I do know 07 was the end of all Carbs including Sportsters .. Mine is a Carbed 05 ..

Also check out the stator if its a 2006. The 2006 models had stators with bolts that backed out. Those can be tack welded. Can check the forums for more info.

All '06 Dynas are EFI - carb not an option. I bought in '06 and remember that. Must be an '05.

As for the pulling in a turn...you might look to see if the cables (front brake or clutch) are too short?

Thanks for the tips Guys. I messaged the new owner last night but worked a 12 hour shift today so just now saw his reply. It's an'05... My bad. Anyway, the steering thing has me worried. Starting to think if it may have some damage to the forks. The pulling is not like a tight cable. It pulls into the turn at very slow speed, while turning around. It feels like a car or truck with an alignment problem that when you turn the wheels and then let go of the steering wheel it doesn't return to straight, instead keeps wanting to turn more.

I even thought it may have been raked with a bolt on kit and isn't set up properly but after looking at the picture he posted it doesn't seem like it.

Also, thinking that the gold colored front pipe may be too much choke for too long. But here's a pic of her. I think it looks pretty sharp.

My guess is old hard rotten tires are causing the pulling or dried out bearings.

The front tire is worn and looks like some slight scalloping. Has sat for 2 -3 years. An older gentleman owned it but didn't use it much. He might need a complete going over. Thanks for the input...
