Default Removing Cat

Removing Cat
2014 Fat ABB with Screamin Eagle staggered slip ons

Dealer told me to cut a square where the cat is, gut the core materials, reweld the square back on.

This will accomplish the following:
Deeper and louder exhaust sound
Lower the heat substantially
Improve overall responsiveness of the throttle.

Any opinions?

Thanks guys.

There are quite a few threads on removing the cat on HDforums. Use Google to search for them, it works better than the forum search

If you like the look of the stock Tommy Gun the cat sits in the 6" middle section of the 2-1-2 pipe.

Here is a thread with a few images to get you started: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...b-exhaust.html

Here's a video of someone who did remove the cat, a before and and after:

it will give you a slight bit more sound. on my low rider, was able to drill it out, removed clean without any cutting and welding.

Do you lose any torque by doing this mod?

i did it on the stock 2-1 on my 14 lowrider with SE nightstick
I was able to drill it out 100% without doing any cutting or welding

also i have a power vision and i ran a few auto tunes afterward and that helped alot

the bike sounds much better, the bike runs basically the same at low rpms but at high rpms with the throttle wide open it runs night and day better

i never really noticed any heat issues before so i cant really speak to that

Thanks for the reply Hell Hound.
I got a used fat bob head pipe & drilled out the cat with a long concrete bit & hole saw.
Still haven't gotten around to putting it on yet.
Got a set of Andrews 48 cams & planning on getting a Power Vision tunner in the fall.
I'm recovering from knee surgery & will not be able to ride till November if I'm lucky.
It's 1 day @ a time for now.

thats what i used , a long concrete bit
i really think the power vision auto tunes i ran helped after the cat removal. Before i tuned it i would run high into the rpms and let off the throttle and it would pop alot. After the tunes that went away for the most part and it just seemed overall smoother. i was just using the basic auto tune that comes with the power vision, im sure the pro version is better but for me the basic worked fine.

The cat material may be dangerous to inhale... I recall reading about some risks when cat was being introduced in cars... I'd want to check that, and exhale... just to be safe. Lungs are hard to swap out...

I bought an already decatted head pipe of ebay for $100 shipped.

Massachusetts doesn't currently sniff for emissions on bikes, but if they ever do, I have the original head pipes with the cat and can switch back.

I have V&H slip ons, decatted head pipe and SE Heavy breather with a PC-5 from Fuel Moto.
My bike runs perfect, with a crisp, clean responsive throttle and power.
My bike has never run so well.
