Why not just get a kit? You'll have to wait a few days for shipment, but an extention kit can be found for $30-40 and up, the kit includes proper color coded wires and the terminals for your specific bike.
It's nice to do it right.
Curious about this one, do you plan to just cut the wire on one side of the plug and solder a patch wire in between? Then put some type of shielding on the patches? I'm with John, get the kit with the pins already installed. It makes it a breeze. May cost another $20 but will save you an hour or two messing with a soldering gun and trying to keep the cables organized while installing.
I'd be very careful about cutting and soldering. I believe the 2014 is a canbus bike and if so is very sensitive to resistance, etc. The service mgr. at my dealer warned about soldering. Said to only crimp.
Edit: and also, have you pulled out all the cable in the spine to check the length? There is a lot of extra cable tucked in there...
Changed mine to 12" apes and there should be plenty of length with the wiring and probably brake line. You may need to change the clutch cable or maybe you could get away with re-routing it. It was barely long enough for 12" apes.
