hey guys. looking for a good kit so I can put my new bars on. only got 14 inchers but evertime i google "14 inch ape wiring kit" i get thousands of sites just selling apes. what are the kits you guys got and what's the cheapest place to get them?
You can get extension kits off ebay for about 50 bucks or a bit less, depending on what you need. That's what I did when I installed PYO monkey bars on my bike this winter, but truthfully, it would have been simpler, neater, and probably easier just to splice in sections of wire in the length I needed right in the middle of the wiring harness. Stagger the joints and hide the splices inside the bars and re-use the original pin ends at the connector.
I bought a kit from Namz and its a good kit went together easy the only problem I had was after you extend them and heat shrink them the large clump of wires you have to run threw the bars!! It isnt easy but if you dont have electronic throttle you can get them threw if you do its not going to be easy, I gave up and went to the dealer and they removed the kit and extended the wires in different places and there was plenty of room. http://www.namzcustomcycleproducts.com/
I just installed my prime apes from LA Choppers last week. I just got the clutch cable and break lines kit. I bought a roll of 18 gauge wire and soldering all the extensions myself. Just stagger cut in middle of wires so you still have your color codes at switch housing and bottom pin connectors. I started stagger cutting 6-8 inches from the switch housing and just staggered my way down the line.
I have a more in depth write up here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...reetglide.html
Just cut and solder yourself. The only problem with the kits is the connections are all in the same spot making for a clup of wires. I've heard good things about Namz, but you can also contact DrVtwin to see what they recommend. Great customer service
