He's right, the 07 WG shift lever goes directly into the tranny.
Are you sure the Tranny fluid isn't red?
Or that it's not residual from the first leak? Wind and viscosity can make fluids move a long ways,, make sure you give it a good bath and check again later.
Yes the transmission fluid is red. I am running spectro heavy-duty platinum 6 speed transmission fluid. I will give it a good bath and see. Thanks.
I had a leak similar to that earlier this year. Drop or two on the primary drain plug. Eventually traced it to a very slow leak from the bottom of the derby cover. It was hard to spot, just a very thin line of oil down to the plug. I had taken that off to adjust the clutch last year, and must not have torqued a couple of bolts to spec. took it off and re-torqued them all, no leaks. maybe check there?
My thought is it's the inner primary seal. This can fail from a few different reasons. I'm chasing one on my '94 Ultra currently (see attached). I finally figured it's the bearing and it's causing a failure of the seal. I've also checked the main shaft race. It's within tolerance and spec.
So I'm going to have a new bearing and seal pressed in tomorrow and see what happens.
I keep seeing a drip of oil on my primary drain plug. I replaced the plug and torqued to spec. That worked for about 100 miles. This morning when I checked the drip is back.
It is a very small leak. Nothing on the floor under the bike.
The primary is not cracked or anything. When I run my hand up the backside of the inner primary it is a little wet with oil.
Any ideas where it is coming from? I am thinking the shifter seal. The bike is a 07 wide glide. Thanks!
If you even suspect it "possibly" the drain bolt, try using liquid teflon on the drain bolt threads
True fact; but... the Wide Glide shares its inner primary with several other Dyna's and there is a #63869-06 gasket on the unused shift tower that's supposed to compress against the outer primary cover to prevent any leaks from the tower.
I do know I've started seeing oil weeping from behind my inner primary and I know it's forward of the transmission; I figure it's that shift tower gasket. When I pull the primary to do the Baker compensator and Attitude manual chain adjuster I'll find a better solution. I should just cut that stupid tower down and permanently block the back of the primary... Yay homologous parts...
If itz transmission oil the bearing race has moved out slightly and needs to be reset/replaced and put new inner primary seal in, if don't set race up properly it will leak still
Drain plug threads? The drain plug does seem sloppy and doesn't bottom in the hole. Tri thread sealant and see if that dries it up. Permatex makes some that work.
