I put them on everything from a Street, Softail, Dyna, Sportster and V Rod.

They look good to me and very useful as I tour on all of them. Put highway pegs or use the stepdown model with the rubber pad.

Saved my leg twice over the years. Once from a SUV t-boning me running a stop sign and once when a road hazard put me down.

It's really a matter of personal taste. I prefer the traditional shaped engine guard for the looks but also because I've attached highway pegs, a helmet lock, and a GoPro mount on it. I don't think my short little legs wouldn't reach a mustache bar for a foot rest, probably not even the Bung King crash bar.

How tall are you?

The bung kings are pretty easy to reach. I'm 5'10" and the bung kings are actually closer to me than the after market highway pegs that bolt in the forward control location.

5'7" but with a 30" inseam. If you look at this pic (might have to view full-size image) you can see my black highway pegs are inside/behind the frame.

I must be oddball here. Had LR that never had crash guard, when I sold that and bot new Road King, I took the crash guard off and left it off. 13 years later and never missed it, bike looks better without it.

After I made my own PV bracket, I’m thinking of welding my own front crash bar(maybe rear in the future). This will be something like the bungking style. Have anybody done this before and mind sharing their experiences?

I was thinking 680mm steel tube that is positioned right above the voltage regulator on my 06 dyna with threads on both end. Ordered some cheap delrin sliders on eBay. I will cut the delrin to 65mm.

I found these numbers from no rules custom crash bar from Italy.
