Front wheel rim change?
I want to change the front wheel of my 06 street bob for a smaller fatter one. There seems to be plenty of room between the forks for a fatter tyre. Instead of buying a whole new wheel I want to just change the rim and go for a 17" one and fit a rim and tyre about the same size as the current Fat Boy (tyre might need to be narrower though).
Has anybody done anything like this? The other problem this gives me is what type of front fender could I use? I'm guessing I'd need to modify a Fay Boy fender.

Limey. I put a 16" on mine. Nothing to it, plenty of room. Just a matter of lacing your hub to the new wheel. gunnyBob put a 17" on his and it looks sharp.

Here is the detail of the front wheel assembly:
Stock frond hub and spacers.
Special fabrication stainless steel spokes for 17" rim.
Morad 3.5X17" alu. rim.
Dunlop D205 (Fat Boy Screaming Eagle) 140/75RX17" and the right tube!
Home modified BK Pro Comp 150mm. wide front fender #909349 from Motorcycle
Storehouse in the Netherlands. As you may see that specific fender have the
profile of the rear one. It was one of the reason I choose it!
Rim and special spokes set came from Hann Wheels also in the Netherlands
(www.hannwheels.com).
I did cut the front fender on the front sides for the new Dyna's fork legs.
I also tig welded a right and left 5mm. thick spacers Threated 5/16 UNF (as
you don't have a lot of place!). I'v give them the profiles of the fender
attachement of the legs.
It handle as a dream and is very stable at any speed on any kind of road.
If you love it done it you will not regret and it's a cheap mod!
About your air filter if you just have one wire I don't konw what it is! European models (I live in Belgium)have two wire and is call an active air system which allow a "door" to open for more air intake at a moment.

Thanks for all the information, really useful. There are quite a few wheel building companies in England so I don't think there'd be a problem with that side of it, but I had a look at Motorcycle Storehouse and their site says that fender isn't available any longer. Have they discontinued it?
On the subject of the wire behind the filter backplate again......
What I have is a cable (2 wires) which I've just unplugged from the connector on the backplate. If I just tie it up out of the way will I get some sort of warning light coming on? I haven't noticed anything, but then I've only just done it. If I need to plug something into the connector, what is it and why?

As Motorcycle Storehouse don't do retail sales you must ask your favorite dealer to contact them by phone to clear because I bought mine just a month ago!
As you are living in England you shouldhave an HDI model and the same "active air intake" that I have on my Bob.
If you simplyunplugyour warning engine light should come on and stay to let you know of a technical problem like for a sensor. If it doesn't I don't understand as minedo!
The solution is to buy from your Zodiac distributor an electronic adapter for active induction system, part. n° 702022 which alloy you to place any kind of air filter without that problem.

Hi Gunny, just trying to source one of these in the UK and they're very confused at my local Zodiac stockist, only seem to have a 07 part which is for intake and exhaust. Also they're quoting me about £30, how much did you pay? Seems a lot for what's probably just a resistor set in plastic.

That's great, thanks for the offer. I'm waiting for the shop to ring back once they have worked out exactly what I want and how much it will cost.
I can't believe HD don't have a solution for this. My local HD dealer said their answer was to break open the OE backplate and pull out the mechanism, wrap it up in a plastic bag, plug it back in and cable tie it out of the way somewhere.
