I just did a Kreem job on a 39 year old XLH1000 gas tank. Washed 2 times with vinegar and a hand full of large nuts (to break up the rust.) After the rinse, I did the 3 part Kreem to it. Still have to paint the tank, but it's got gas in it and does not leak.

Red Kote works and it's one step process after you clean up the rust. Re-did an old BMW airhead tank with it... cleaning up the rust with white vinegar, and masking off the paint with tape. If you use it you'll want adequate ventilation and a mask as it's some of the foulest smelling stuff I've ever used. The coating is still in the same shape as when it went on nearly 3 years later.
