Hey guys , long story short, found a 1999 fxr2, 1000 miles.Bike is a time capsule.Good news its all there , complete original, bad news gas sitting in tank for 17 years.Shop says tank beyond repair. What are my options ,Harley discontinued that specific tank so i am looking for replacement advice. Thanks in advance.
crappy cell phone pic
From what i understand, the shop had the tank sitting in solvent to remove contamination, they sent it out for repair and were told it was beyond help. Not sure why,but i am under the impression the integrity of the tank is compromised.
Thanks ,i saw those but will they fit a 1999? Thats why i am here ,you guys who know more than me.The tanks are from earlier years and just want to make sure they will work.I did find this on ebay and just waiting for the seller to reply to my question about fit.
I call bullshit. It's not a pressurized tank and it's.not structural, so thin walls are no big deal...unless it's literally perforated like swiss cheese. People revive tanks for classics every day. Talk to some vintage car/bike places. I'd be surprised if it couldn't be put back into service.
The bigger question is how much do you want to spend. It may be cheaper to find a good used tank from a bike salvage or ebay.
What i was told today by the shop is they took it to two different places and both said they would not touch it because it was thin. I know nothing about this stuff. As far as ebay, i cannot get a straight answer regarding swapping tanks from say a 92 onto a 1999 fxr2 cvo.Anybody know if the fuel tank on my bike is specific for that year or can tell me what tanks will fit.
