After you select your gauge panel view, select the cell you want to see Gear #.
Then click on vehicle. Make sure you have advanced signals selected. There are two options for Gear, you need to choose the 1st option. This should do it.
When I was initially trying to accomplish the same thing, I selected that "gear #" 1st option and the high max showed a value of something like "104". This turned me away and I tried troubleshooting elsewhere. I finally reverted back to that selection, fired up the bike and cruised around and sure enough it is spot on with my gear selection.

Reason: select 1st option
After you select your gauge panel view, select the cell you want to see Gear #.
Then click on vehicle. Make sure you have advanced signals selected. There are two options for Gear, I believe you need to choose the 2nd option. This should do it.
When I was initially trying to accomplish the same thing, I selected that "gear #" second option and the high max showed a value of something like "104". This turned me away and I tried troubleshooting elsewhere. I finally reverted back to that selection, fired up the bike and cruised around and sure enough it is spot on with my gear selection.
BTW... Thanks for the PM!
I may be missing something, but I am still having issues with this same thing.
I went to advanced, changed the setting form 6 up to 104, and I still got no activity.

No problem.
I was incorrect in my earlier post as well, it is the 1st "Gear" option within advanced signals.
My low limit is "0" and my high limit is "104". Change your low to zero and you should be good. I have no idea why the high is 104 but I also don't care as it works now haha
