I have the Slim Fab Farm customs "EL HEFE Kinky" sissy bar. I bunge a sissybar backpack to it and carry everything from my work laptop, to beer and groceries.
My 16" Bowman sissy bar.
Had it nearly 2 years now and no issues, for the money it's been great. Its got many miles of heavy bags and boxes strapped to it and no problems, it's solid and has great build quality for what you pay.
@GWC68, those two examples you posted are quite different. I had the same issue. I wanted a short one for around town and taller for longer trips (for the lady or strapping luggage to). I tried detachable sideplates, but didn't like them.
I ended up going with the Harley rigid side plates and two different sizes of sissy bar. It's four quick bolts to swap them. You could probably have a much taller one fabbed up and you could swap back and forth. I actually want one that's taller as well.
Unfortunately I don't have a good picture with the "mini-rail" backrest, but I found this crappy screenshot.
This is before I modified my wheels and exhaust (I just had to disclose that) anyway I will be building a new one the same style only it will be 3/4 inch diameter cold rolled steel, and it will have 1/4 in flat stock strip in the lower center of it. This will add a little bit of structural integrity, and allow me to attach a passenger backrest pad. Cheaper/more fun to make em yourself.
