Started the bike this morning to a very loud and obnoxious rattle coming from the headlight. Figured the ring was loose. Nope. One side of the mount cracked in half.
Haha! Almost got a Dark Horse instead of this. But I really like the compact size, especially for lane splitting, compared to the land boats of the Indians. Scouts were on my short list as well.
This one was paid cash though, so I may still get an Indian as well!!
A guy I work with has a Scout. It sounds like it has a notable whine probably because of the cam drive. It's not butt ugly or anything but its not a Harley Davidson. The radiator takes away from the look it is trying to have.
Took it to Sweetwater HD in National City CA today. They evaluated it for the warranty quick so I could get back to work. So that was nice. The fact that he said he didn't know if HD would warranty the part....not so nice. Also, if they do, it would count as my ONE available claim for "cosmetic" defects.....how the hell is this cosmetic???? The damn headlight looks like it is about to shake off the bike!!
Also, I'm looking at 2-4 WEEKS before it would be repaired IF HD honors the warranty. WTF.
I'm seriously worried that the added stress to the only side of the bracket that isn't broken, is going to brake it as well.
You can get that bucket for $60 or so - they make one specifically for day maker upgrades that are identical to the stock bucket. (As far as I can tell). Not saying you should, but it's an option. It's about a 5 min fix. One bolt, one screw, and one plug.

That is absolutely not a "cosmetic" defect.
"Cosmetic" means 'visual but not mechanical' - eg a dimple on paint or scratch in your chrome, a bit of surface-rust maybe, etc.
In complete contrast, a headlight is absolutely necessary and required by law, not just some "cosmetic' vanity item. More significantly, having a broken headlight mount is really dangerous - you only have the one headlight and probably shouldn't ride at night until it's replaced.
I'd stick to your guns if you can but, as others have said, replacement headlights are cheap and easy to do yourself. I took off my 5 3/4" and replaced with a 7" from Drag Specialties (I think it was) for 50 bucks or something.
