The simplest solution would be to buy an A/C that's already been designed for external venting as opposed to buying an A/C and then modding it to vent externally. I went with the DK Custom 587 and smooth chrome bobber cover. DK sells their A/C's with multiple options for external venting, depending on the look you're going for on your ride. Looking at Revzilla, the price of the 587 is just slightly more than the V&H you've been considering.

I'm the sort that's always changing things up and I've changed my external breather setup a half dozen times but I really like the under A/C filter setup I've got now; short hose runs so the crankcase gasses are still a hot vapor when they exit the filter, no chance of the vapor cooling and allowing the oil to condense back out; a very clean external breather.

Every Twin Cam seems to be a bit different on how much carryover they have; my 103", even being methodical with oil level and viscosity has always had more carryover than my previous Twin Cam's and I found the DK breather bolts, while being extremely discrete, gave me a bit more misting than my OCD could handle You may find with proper oil level on your ride the breather bolts work great; they're an elegant solution.

There are options using banjo fittings or a horseshoe style venting the gasses in to a hose run under the bike or running it to a catch can. If you buy an A/C that's EPA compliant you can drill and tap the stand-offs to vent it externally; there are quite a few external venting options out there.

First step would be to decide what style of A/C you want. The majority out there are EPA compliant so you'd need to mod it for external venting. DK Custom, I believe Hammer Performance, and one or two others are the only sources for A/C's designed and ready for external venting...

Is the K&N 1614 replacement filter considered a Stage 1, and also a good option?

Just now getting around to reading this post. Thanks for the advice. Very helpfull. Im the first one to admit it when i dont know something and these new harleys have thrown me for a loop with all the tuning and options out there these days. I havent even got my bss on yet. Gonna try and make a solid choice sometime this week on a hfaf. Its snowing outside now so i think i have plenty of time research a lil more and buy one then install it. Over the years with trucks and bikes i have learned when it comes to mods to do it right the first time with no regrets or you will find your self just redoing it and spending more money to get what you really wanted and needed to begin with. Ha
Thanks again
