Default 2016 Thunderheader on my 2008 Street Bob?

I know you were hoping for pictures, but not just yet. Ive got a question. Ive searched and searched, spoke with tech at HD, and I've begun to go crosseyed.

I recently scored a "like new" Thunderheader with shields while on vacation. Came off of a 2016 FXDL. I want to run the pipe on my 2008 FXDB. My question is what is the best way to do this? Im currently running V&H Short Shots and a fuelpak. I know Im currently running 18mm o2 sensors in the Short Shots, and the bungs in the Thunderheader are 12mm due to the newer year. Pipes came with bung plugs.

Help me with understanding my options. As I see it:
A: Weld in 18mm bungs
B: Swap the FP with a PC5 and run the o2 eliminators(But could i just run eliminators with the FP anyway?)
C: Swap out my 18mm sensors for newer 12mm sensors
D: Scrap the whole thing and just try and trade someone for a Thunderheader that will fit my bike.

Any other ideas?

Hi Zombiegang,
By the numbers

A: Yes the closed loop answer, this would be my choice.
B: That works, personal preference, reduced fuel mileage.
C: That does not work as a plug in (heated o2 sensor canbus)
D: If all else fails.

You can buy o2 bungs from the Harley dealer. I was pricing out a autotune kit for my bike and was told the 18 mm bungs were 8 bucks each so id suggest buying those and paying the 50-100 bucks to have them welded in, then just plug the 12s. Thunder header is a very good system so I'd stick with it. Everyone I know says they wouldn't run Vance and Hines if they were given to them for free (no offense). The TH is gonna give you a lot better performance in my opinion.

Cool PC-V or power vision

Personally and what we think the better choice would be ....is purchase a PC-V w/ autotune ..(kit comes with the wide band sensors and 18mm bungs ) .(or the Powervision ) ..have a buddy wield in the bungs and you'er set for life !!!
have fun tuning the map and enjoy a very smooth , running motor ...!!!

but beware ...for the power vision you will need the Target Tune module for the tuning to work in real time ....it will work w/ the Autotune module ...but only in the learning mode...then you flash the learned AFR's to the ecm and and turn off the auto tune ... the bike runs like only using a PC-V w/o autotune ...the sensors are not used any more ...or you can use the stock 12mm sensors and autotune w/ them ...but only in the 14-14.8 range ...(narrow band) ...
good luck ..!!!

I agree with the Powervision 100% since that's what I'm doing with mine, but that is a lot more money.

This is most likely the route i was gonna go. I wouldn't trade for any other pipe but another thunderheader for my year.

Thank you immensely for the photos. Perfect example of placement for me to take in as a ref. Ill most likely weld in some new 18mm bungs to start out and then eventually switch over to the PC-V. The autotune is a little out of my budget at the moment.

I understand the budget completely. That's exactly why I suggested the bungs. If you can drill/weld it will cost less than an oil change

10-4 ...just beware of the placement ...as the 18mm's are longer than the 12's and will need some extra clearance ...!! best to install pipe and then check out placing the sensors at the needed angle !!!
good luck ...

Thanks for all the help so far guys, i wasn't 100% sure if i had been missing any other options that were out there. Seems aside from just trading the pipe for another TH for my 2008, the easiest is to just continue my running my fuelpak and weld in the bungs. Down the road ill pick up a PC-V.

Also going to look into possibly having the pipe twisted for clearance like user JCleary did years ago.
