AWW man that HELLA sucks!! its pretty f*cked up when the cops won't even do their job to investigate... but you did what i want to do... rebuild it better than it was. and insurance will definitely go up!!! mine doubled upon renewal after my accident over a year ago

I carry Uninsured/Underinsured insurance on my policies should someone take me out and take off. Someone has to pay.

I also wanna add a couple of years ago i lost a bike. It was a 2006 harley that i had just paid off and completed my build on. So being the big dummy i was i dropped full coverage during the winter since it was paid off and i wasnt gonna be riding it anyway much in the winter. On dec. 1st that year my dumb *** neighbor was burning trash on a no burn ban day (to dry) and caught my garage on fire. Burnt it to the ground before anyone could get it put out. With my bike in it. Firefighters had to work there butt off just to save my house and it still melted siding on the back of the house. Insurance said it was up to me to pursue any loss with the person who caused the fire. The person who did it is a broke low life who hasnt ever had nothing and never will. So long story short i lost that bike totally. All that was left was the frame pretty much. Lessoned i learned was anything i value will from then on have full coverage insurance plus some. Maybe that will make u feel a little better atleast yours is rebuildable ha. Mine wasnt. Took me a couple of years to save up enough to just make a down payment on my current new one. Talk about sucking *****.

One of those "look at the bright side" type of things i guess. No oil leaks of any sorts as well. Has anybody had a similar situation where you just dont want to go through insurance to fix the bike? if so did y'all buy all new parts or used or mixed? anything i should look out for? Rims and tires still look fine and forks dont look screwed except for the road rash...
Based on the cost of parts it would probably total out.

The loss didn't fall under "home owner's" policy? Interesting...

Only in insurance terms perhaps. Lowest book value vs OEM parts and labor for full replacement of any/every damaged components. A painted tank alone...

Anyway... The point is, if the bars weren't snapped-off like that you were probably riding it home. Bet it's ride-able with a couple hundred bucks only - just some bars (and will even pass inspection). Maybe a little extra stiction in the fork (worst case) but ride-able.

I still say minor damage and cosmetics.
