First Harley?
I currently have a 2004 Honda Intercptor and while it is an excellent bike, I regret not buying a Harley. The Interceptor is not real comfortable on long rides and there is just something about a Harley.
There are several deals at the local dealer and I am thinking of getting a 2007 Super Glide with detachable windshield, sissy bar, passenger seat, and forward controls. I ride to work every day I can and take some day rides and once or twice a year I go on an overnight trip.
There is also a used 2005 V Rod available for $12500 with 3000 miles. I haven't seen it in person yet but from pictures it looks pretty good and that is a lot of bike for the price.
I like the look of both and have always had a soft spot for the V Rod and for the Dyna line. It's financially simpler to get the new bike from the dealer as they will take my old bike in trade and handle the financing.
I am interested in ride comfort, style, and the rumbly Harley sound. Having typed that, I think the Super Glide would be a good choice but any other opinions would be welcome!!

tough choice as always. it is all in what you like . go the mile and get what you really want the first time. see if any local dealers have test rides. none here ever do for some reason . The harley is a world class bike for sure. once you have one you will never go back. don't buy at the first dealer once you decide what you want...shop for the right color and the right price. many dealers have slim pickins right now because the 08's will be in before to long and most dealers get no more bikes in this time of the year .
tons of good people here to help you with any questions. i guess i was no help really . and yes,all the dyna lineup rocks.
we all voice opinions here is what makes this a great forum. and when you need help.you will get it here for sure. good luck and keep us posted please.

I think the super glide is a great bike. cool to start and plenty of room to make it your own. The dyna will be more comfortable than the v rod. I have ridden both, however my ride on the v rod was a demo and not to long, it was very fast, i went like 80 in second gear, however the feeling of the ride is totally different. and if you want the harley sound you will get that with the dyna and while with aftermarket pipes the v rod will sound very cool, its not the same as the typical harley sound. Like others will tell you for sure its what you like that matters. Im not sure where you will find one but if you can get to a place where harley is doing demo rides you can ride any and every harley you choose. Both of the bikes you are looking at are great so good luck and you'll definately be glad you got a harley.
Just my opinion, but buy the cheapest Dyna(FXD) save a couple grand, spend the money you saved on what you really want on a bike, make it your own and never look back. Dyna's are THE best Harley in my opinion. I ride to work every day and I wish the commute was longer!
Comfort, style and sound definately means Dyna to me; Interceptor is more performance oriented, like the V-Rod...and with about a million accessories available from the dealer and the aftermarket you can make your Dyna whatever you want/can afford...I did and couldn't be happier and I've ridden V-Rods, V-Max's, BMW's, Gold Wings, Old Wings, a Norton,a Sportyand a Blackbird among many other bikes (I have good friends at a local non-Harley dealer)

Buy cheapest you mean buy a used one or something else? I don't have a quote from my local dealer but I will call around tomorrow. It's not a total matter of money but I don't want to complete break the bank!
I now have 2300 mile on my (07 FXDB) first HD.
All my other bikes have been metric and I loved them all.

If it’s a matter of money I would stay with metrics.
No matter which HD you get it will be hard to go back.
HD’s are industrial strength machines loaded with attitude.
Good luck.
