Does anyone have any hints/tips/tricks for installing the Smooth Passenger Pillion (Part Number 51404-10). I bought one for when the wife wants to ride (to match my Sundowner Solo Seat Part Number 51933-06), but regardless what I have tried, I cannot get it installed (can't push the solo far enough forward). Any suggestions are appreciated.
I had a solo and passenger pillion on my Dyna. I'm not sure I understand what you're struggling with.
You can't "push the solo forward", because the screw at the rear holds it. If you have the solo attached with that screw at the rear, it's installed correctly.
I assume you can't push the pillion seat forward enough to get its rear tab aligned with the nut on the fender. You may have to squeeze the rear edge of the solo a bit to get the pillion pushed far enough forward to get the rear tab aligned with the nut. You may have to flex the base of the pillion to make this fit.
Agree with danhahn above, and whatever you do take a step back, otherwise you will end up scratching the paint, no seat needs to be forced, slight push forward at the most.
OP, if you want to sell that pillion and if it's not damaged, PM me a price.
Maybe I'll throw it and my old Street Bob solo seat on my low rider for a different look.
I believe they should fit.
I think your pillion pad is for a Street Bob or Wide Glide solo seat.
You need PN 51473-06A, Sundowner passenger pillion.
Ah-ha. I didn't look up the part numbers. Yup, matching seats are designed so that the curve of the padding on the two parts fit together. If the OP is struggling this much...
Thanks for the feedback. According to the HD web-site, PN 51473-06A only fits 2015 Switchback FLD, Fat Bob FXDF, and Low Rider FXDL (I have the Wide Glide FXDWG with the Sundowner Solo). I'll head back to the MoCo and see what they say. The bitch of it is they were running them on sale when I bought this one. Something tells me they won't want to sell me the correct one for the sale price.
Thanks for the feedback. According to the HD web-site, PN 51473-06A only fits 2015 Switchback FLD, Fat Bob FXDF, and Low Rider FXDL (I have the Wide Glide FXDWG with the Sundowner Solo)...
"Fits '06-later DynaŽ models equipped with Sundowner™ Solo Seat P/N 51933-06 or '06-'08 FXDB and '06-'09 FXDWG models equipped with Original Equipment solo seat."
EDIT: What year is your bike? It may be a misprint (hopefully) in the individual years "fitment" . But you're going to check it out
