Default dkcustoms state inspection issues?

I'm thinking about putting a dkcustoms air cleaner system on my street bob this spring or when it gets a little warmer out. For those of you with a similar system that vents to the atmosphere and who live in a state that requires an annual inspection, have you ever had any problems failing inspection, etc because of it? I know not everyone who's required to get an inspection actually does.... haha, but I usually do!

I guess if it bothers me when the inspection comes around I could just switch back to the stock air cleaner. How hard would it be to switch back to stock? I think you've got to use threadlocker during the installation, would it be too much of a PITA? I'm looking at either breather bolts or just a traditional breather system (with the filter hanging below the air cleaner).

Just wanted to pick your brains, thanks!

I can not possibly imagine your bike failing he PA inspection due to an aftermarket air cleaner. I don't think I ever had a Harley inspected in PA that had a stock one.

It is easy to swap out air cleaners...even with threadlocker...we do it all the time, when testing different A/C's.

HOWEVER, in PA Motorcycles are excluded from Emissions (smog) Testing.

Inspection Exclusions & Exemptions
The following vehicles are excluded from emissions testing:
  • Motorcycles.
You can see more at the state website-

http://www.dmv.org/pa-pennsylvania/smog-check.php

Even California does not do smog testing on motorcycles, see their website -

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/vr/smogfaq

In PA, you probably have to have a safety inspection, where they check brake lights, mirrors, turn signals, horn, etc. They will not even pay any attention to your air cleaner set-up during a safety inspection.

You will never have an issue in PA with any air cleaner for inspection.

It's not the AC he's worried about, it's the Bypass.

All of our Outlaw A/C's Systems have a bypass built into them as part of the A/C system.

There are No States doing smog or emission tests on Motorcycles, so it is a non-issue inspection wise.

It is also a non-issue if you have some other Air Cleaner and use one of our External Breather Systems (EBS) with it.

Unless you're in California, California sucks.

Even out here it's not uncommon to yank all the emissions crap off. Hell, first thing people usually do is go stage 1 with an "off-road" exhaust and a tune...unless you get pulled over and the cop is nit-picky, it's very rarely an issue. That being said I wouldn't put it above CA to start doing emissions inspections on bikes so I'm holding on to all the stock stuff just in case...
