I have the setup you are looking at and I recommend the backrest. I also have a set of highway pegs so when I'm on a long run I place my feet up and sit back. It's also comfy when I have my feet on the mid controls. I raised and pulled my stock handlebars slightly. A windshield allows me to ride all day without stress. The wide vintage seat placed me slightly more forward than the stock seat. Here is my setup with and without both the backrest and windshield.
