Way back before forward controls most folks had highway bars and mid controls. I always liked having mids and forwards so I put forward controls and mid pegs on. Lets me move my feet around anytime I want. I don't know why more people don't do this???
When I first started looking for a new bike I really liked the front end of the wide glide but I couldn't get over the look of the rear fender and after sitting on one I found I could barely reach the controls. My next choice was a street bob with forward controls. However, I'm vertically challenged... or more accurately inseam challenged and forward controls jsut aren't comfortable for me and would probably be somewhat dangerous. I elected to go old school, which works well since I'm old, and went with a mustang wide solo seat, stock mid controls and Harley's adjustable highway pegs in their closest position. That's worked out OK. Like most of us, I've got to have an alternative place for my feet and this gives me what I need. I think my next mod will be 14" apes which will give me a bit more wiggle room.
