Just curious, how tall are you folks and do you have forward controls.
I'm 6'3" with about a 34" inseam. I have a Low Rider with the factory mid controls and highway pegs. I have been considering going to forward controls but I am concerned that I will lose some legroom if I do. Looking at the HD set it looks like I would lose almost 3" of reach. That won't do for me. If anything I would like about another 1/2". As it is now, I don't ever even use the mid pegs. I ride with my feet on the highway pegs and shift with my heel. Not the best setup, but I've gotten used to it. Kind of the driving factor here is that I want to replace the pegs, but I don't want to have to buy another set (mids) that will never get used and leaving the factory pegs on there just won't look right.
I've been looking at the Xoprodox 2" extended fwd controls. Anyone have any experience with these? Any idea how far out that ends up being?
Another concern is how much do forward controls cut into cornering clearance? It seems that they sit lower on the frame than my highway pegs. I just remember riding through Custer State Park between Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse and having to kick my mid pegs up to keep them from dragging around the curves and watching the sparks fly off the footboards on my buddies' Softails.
I have a Low Ryder with Kuryakyn forward controls with a 30" inseam. Kuryakyn also makes a 3" extension for these which might work. I can vouch for the forward controls but not the extensions as I don't need them.
I'm not sure if this will help you, but here goes. I just bought a Springer and it came with forward controls from the factory. I'm 5'11 and I find that it's comfortable for me. Not sure about someone that is taller. Maybe someone at the HD shop near you would have a bike that you could sit on or try out that have the forward controls on it so you could see how it felt.
I have the Dyna wide glide forward controls on my FXD. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam ,and they feel real comfortable . Being you have a 2" longer inseam the extensions should work out pretty good for you . Or you could just go down to a HD dealer ,and see how the FXDWG controls feel and take it from there .
It's not a Dyna, but the stock forward controls on my Night Train fit me like they were specifically designed for me! I'm a little over 5'8 with a 30" inseam.
