I run my tires a little longer than most and swapped mine out at just under 10k miles. Realistically I probably should have swapped them out at 8k. BUT, last year Pirelli improved the Night Dragon for higher milage. At least that's what the company says. Assuming it's true I'd say 10k out of the rear tire is very realistic.
there is a new night dragon. It has some silly extra word in the name. I saw them when i was replacing my front recently.
It looks like the GT version is only available for the rear at this point; no love for the 180/60-17 Wide Glide rear size, either, so I'll be running the standard Night Dragons; but when the GT is available both front and rear I'll be sure to try them out!
On my Sporty I recently put on the Metzeler 888's. Only have a few hundred miles on them but so far I really like. A huge step over the stock Dunlops. I havent tried other tires but wanted give a shot to the Metz's.
Another Night Dragon user here. I had started a similar thread last summer and TinCupChalice and others were the catalyst for this choice. I only have about 2k on the tires since getting them so can't speak to overall mileage on the tire.
However, it's the first tire I've used where I have zero chicken strips. The grip is excellent and the profile of the tire seems to make it easier to get the bike over in a turn. I've been following TCC's advice on running the air pressure a little higher than normal as well.

Pirelli and Metzeler are the same company. Pirelli is based in Milan Italy but they manufacture many of their tires in the Metzeler plant in Germany. My Pirelli's had a Made in Germany stamp on them.
