I picked up a heavy breather elite basically because I like the look. Before I drilled it to do my usual external vent mod, I mounted it up to check clearances. I noticed that the TB opening is bigger then the 50mm TB on my LRS. Everything lines up ok, bolt holes, etc. The install manual shows it as a fit for my '16 LRS, and says for 50mm TB only, but the HD web page shows it fitting 58mm models as well.
So I'm wondering if the larger diameter intake port will negatively impact the intake performance. I expect not, the only potential problem I could see would be the breather ports not being directly in the airflow might cause oil pools to form, but I'll be venting externally anyway, so that doesn't matter.
The only way I can think it would hurt the performance is if it's not a smooth transition to the throttle body, which it probably won't be. Might not be that big of a deal, but probably not optimum.
I was under the impression there was some adapter or as HD called it, "back plate". My lrs had a heavy breather from the factory, and when switching to the 117/58 mm tb, I realized there was no such part. In other words, I put 5k on my lrs with the heavy breather exactly the way you're describing without any issues at all.
You wont see any issues unless youre trying to get max performance out of the motor. That 'lip' would interrupt air flow, and the reversion waves/turbulence will affect the column of air entering the motor.
I'm curious did you ever get this AC externally vented? I want to do mine but there isn't much room back there with this all in ine backing plate.
Yes I did. The usual way, drilling and tapping the standoffs for barbs, only the aft one is angled out about 45 deg - say 8 o'clock - to clear the TB connector cover. I made a post of it, let me dig it up.
Edit: here it is. On the bagger forum as I did the one on my road glide, but it's the same thing.
