That can be remote. However, on older bikes that sit and then are brought back to like in the spring, sometime have a nasty habit of getting trash under the needle valve and poring gas out the vent hose. That is why they should never be just taken off to save a few dollars.
It's just to easy to get distracted and forget to shut off the fuel. Your bike sitting in the hot sun on a city street surrounded by a big puddle of gas could be tragic.

There is just no reason to make a terrorist out of your bike.
