yes they work GREAT ...45-50 degree difference ...will stabilize the temp well before over heating ...and after a blast down the super slab ...instead of the temp raising while at the stop light ....it will actually start to cool down ...
just remember ...an oil cooler is just that ...COOLS THE OIL ...dose nothing for high head temps
doesn't that defeat the purpose? i added a fan oil cooler to help cool it down a bit for times when im stuck in heavy traffic and there is no constant air flow...

My main concern with this installation was keeping the oil sump temperatures below 300 degrees F. with the engine under load at high ambient temperatures. A secondary concern was mounting the cooler in a position where it wouldn't fill up with debris thrown off the front tire and lose efficiency over time.
Harley did a good job with the EITMS system going into skip fire at about 290 degrees F cylinder head temperature. This is a good conservative setting that tells you to get moving soon. A good analog for for comparison of CHT is a Lycoming pushrod 4 cylinder aircraft engine, here is a quote from their operators manual, "For maximum service life, cylinder head temperatures should be maintained below 435°F (224°C) during high performance cruise operation and below 400°F (205°C) for economy cruise powers.", keep in mind that any detonation at those temperatures will hole a piston in about a minute. The materials used in construction are not the same and this is for comparison only, food for thought .

Those aircraft aren't really in a Heavy Stop-n Go Traffic situation too much are they? And when in the situation of their engine running while the aircraft is not moving, wouldn't you consider them having "Fan Assist"?

Shure, but the 400 degree CHT is still there which was deemed a safe limit for operation for that engine with a 500 degree max CHT. So my point is Harley's EITMS gives you a fair early warning your engine is getting a bit hotter than normal by going into self preservation mode.
Fans work and make sense on baggers or if your riding style and local riding conditions are such they are deemed necessary. If I hang a sidecar on the Dyna (might happen) I would definitely run fans and run a much larger oil cooler, but I would build the fan system myself as the current market offerings lost the form over fashion argument and look silly to my eye.
