I have looked at these for a while, my heated glove inserts are nice and warm, but very uncomfortable do to the bulkiness with the gloves. Only reason I haven't gone with the Heat Demons is because I have read that they aren't compatible with the internal wiring, don't know why, was thinking it might be the internal heat it produces and what possible damage it could do to wiring shielding. I would like to see if you have any issues later in the season that could be related to what I am saying. Can you tell me how long the wiring is that goes from bar end to bar end, wondering if it would be long enough for the apes I have.
The wire is 48" that goes from the throttle out the left grip. That's plenty easy to fix if it ain't long enough, just add some wire to the end of it. As far as heat affecting internally ran wiring, at 150*-160* it isn't going to be an issue. The wiring above and around your motor is subjected to WAY more heat than that.
I wonder how they would work with my Avon cushion grips. Also not sure if I would want to epoxy my grip on. The throttle side is not, why the left?
I don't have a clue as to which exact Avon grips you have, but with my Arlen Ness grips they work great. As far as epoxy on your left grip you don't have to as long as you don't mind a loose grip. It's not a requirement of the heaters, and as far as the throttle grip, 99% of those come glued on the throttle housing when you buy them for a Harley. The heaters require nothing different as far as normal grip installation.
Pistonman1 - I have them (love em) with Avon Air Cushion grips, they work fine. I usually don't need to go all the way to the highest setting, usually run on #3.No need to epoxy the left grip because of the Heat Demons. Those that need epoxy need it and those that don't (Like the the Avons) don't.
Have them on my 2016 FXDF. They work great. I was surprised how well it works through the throttle housing as well. Actually my throttle side gets hotter than the clutch side!
I also have a seat heater in my Corbin seat. So a little wind protection and cold days aren't an issue.
I ran similar set up on my ZZR1200.
