Can I get some advice? I dearly want to get rid of the ugly factory breather that came on my 2013 FXDC, looking at the kick *** one shown in picture link(couldnt get laptop to save image), unclear though how detrimental it is if caught in rain with open breather as such. My factory one is enclosed, ideal for that but I get less flow. and looks like ****. I dont intend to be riding in the rain, but everyone has been caught in it from time to time.
So the question is, do guys without an enclosed breather never go out if its cloudy? or whats the deal please.
Rain sock slips over the exposed filter in those types of air cleaners. Some people don't use them. Mostly needed in real heavy rain. I carry them in my bags.

Ya know(?) I've never heard of anyone harming an engine in any way running through a storm.
Lord know's, like all of us I've been caught in some "soaked to the skin" down pours,, and had to run distance in a drizzle to get home.
I've had sputtering and coughing, that I've always attributed to wet shorting plug wires. Most of the trouble I've had has been wiring and mud.
but again,, I don't know of anybody that's sucked so much rain into the intake to cause damage.
My Brother in law 04 Superglide will NOT run even in a light rain. He has the OEM cover as well! But he did add a batwing fairing and possibly that is directing water directly into his air cleaner. Never seen anything like it. No damage done but having your bike quit running on a busy road could hurt.
