Installed the HH conversion kit onto my 12 SB. Everything seemed to go together great, but as I buttoned it all up, I can see that the rotor is not sitting in the middle of the caliper (pic), and I get a strange noise when I squeeze in the brake. So, how should I proceed? Can I just try to insert a
thin washer between the lower leg and spacer to bump it over?
Thanks
Well first of all, what kind of strange noise? Not to insult your intelligence, but it is normal to hear a buzzing type sound. No offense if you've been riding Harleys for a while, I only mentioned this cause so many people don't seem to know this. Lol off topic but a coworker recently asked my to fix his sportster cause it makes a clunk noise when he downshifts lol.
I just bolted the new rotor spacer on and then the rotor, then re-installed. I loosened everything up, played around with the tubes, and it seems to better. I just need to ride it and see if it's cool. Cold and rain in N'east Ohio. Also, I'm assuming both of the spacers with that kit are identical, they weren't marked L or R, and visually looked the same.
I'm not familiar with that hub but don't assume anything. It may or may not be symmetrical. Measure the spacers to be certain. Were there instructions included in the kit?
I'm sure Multihdrdr already knows exactly what's going on.
No instructions, so I don't think it mattered which spacer goes where. Looked like 1 5/8ths. I used the stock SB hub laced to a 21 inch rim. Maybe the tubes weren't exactly straight?
Unfortunately I don't have a definitive answer to explain your problem, but measurements don't lie. If it were mine, I'd take it all apart and measure everything carefully. Rim offset, bearing face offset, rotor mounting face offset, spacer thicknesses, etc. It's entirely possible the kit has the wrong spacers for your application. There a lot of variable that a kit may not accommodate. I would trust my results before any kit contents.
I actually got it looking more centered (not exactly sure how!) the wheel spins fine. Again, once the damn weather cooperates, I can take it out. Thanks for the help
