Default 1550cc/95cubic inch?

Was having a chat with a fellow Dyna Sport owner today who's had a fair amount of work done to his motor - one mod being the 1550cc/95cu inch big bore conversion. He was a little bit non-commital about the conversion's benefits which led me to believe it perhaps doesn't make a huge difference, especially bearing in mind the expense.

Those folk who have had it done on here, did you find it a worthwhile improvement, or does it give of its best when used with other mods ie cams and heads?

Thanks for any input - be it positive or negative.

Richard.

I installed the 95 kit #29859-04A. The one I got had cam's, heavy clutch spring, and SE air cleaner kit. Had the recalibration done and SE torque muffler's. run's way better than my other stock 88TC.

I bought a bike with it all done already. The heads were port and polished, cylinders were machined, and not sure what cam was used. If u are a speed junkie this is exactly what you need. I raced a vtx 1800 from a 2nd gear roll on we stayed side by side up to about 80 and then i started walking him. From a 3rd gear roll on same thing. From a 70 mph roll on there was no comparison, i left him like he was standing still. If you are looking for low end theres not to much there but it comes alive in the mid to upper range. I know if i get another bike this will already be done.

I have a 2000 SE Roadglide with factory installed 95/1550 kit with 203 cams. It made a huge difference over all the stock bikes I've had. With some good pipes and a good dyno tuner you will have more fun than you should.

My 95" upgrade this summer made a world of difference over the stock TC88. Mileage isn't that much worse, still get 42 or so at a steady 70-75, best I got stock was about 45 or so. That aside, the smile on your face when you roll on the throttle is worth every penny. My upgrade was done with SE big bore jugs, SE forged pistons, SE 251 cams and reworking the stock heads so they'd flow better and a SERT. Stage 1 carb upgrade was done the year before and I'm running a set of V&H pipes, which aren't the best match for the build, still look good and sound better than stock.

For my $.02, as long as the engine is apart for the jug and piston upgrade, might as well have the heads done and a set of cams installed. The labor to do it all later can be expensive. Check around for a good dealer who can match cams, headwork, etc. to your specific riding style. For instance, if you want a lot of low end torque, a cam and headwork that does zip below 4000 rpms is worthless to you and will be a big disappointment. On the other hand, if you're looking to ring every bit of upper end performance and regularly ride in the 4000 + rpm range, a build with low end grunt is not for you.

I was lucky enough to find a dealer who not only did an amazing job on the performance end, but stood behind their work and is honoring the balance of the original factory warranty. Most of the dealers I asked about a 95" kit told me as soon as the engine was touched, bye bye warranty. Check around, the cheapest deal is not always the most appropriate.
