I did run out to Harbor Freight (which is like two miles from me), where I got an air powered solvent sprayer. It doesn't seem as nice as cggorman's, but it was nine bucks.
But as TriGeezer pointed out, the powdered bits were very manageable and I ended up cleaning them by hand mineral spirits, air, and a microfiber. I haven't done anything yet with the heads and cylinders (which look very clean)...

Yup... I just read the article that Nemo linked (thanks, Mike!). I guess I'll soap-and-water-and-oil them right before I'm ready for install. Same with heads.

A shop I worked at in my younger years, we had a dishwasher that we used to wash engine tins (Valve covers, oil pans, timing chain covers...).
Hand washing w/ soap and water..Dawn dish-soap.
