Does any of ya'all run with the rain sock on? I got one with mine and have put it on while washing. However, I have not ran it in the rain yet. When on for washing the element still gets wet. I also have a power vision tuner on and don't know weather to run the sock occasionally or not? Seems like the sock would possibly reduce airflow during tuning session. Any comment? Mike
My experience with rain socks over the years is that they only delay the filter from getting wet. That delay is not more than a few minutes. Don't even bother to put them on any more.
Just did a 4K mile ride to Vegas and back. Rained going in Missouri for over a hundred miles. Coming back it rained from Kingman to Albuquerque. The bike ran fine but mpg dropped by 10 mpg in both cases. It would have been the same result with the sock on.
Don't bother to use them anymore. It was on a 16 Heritage with a 103 HO with a SE Ventilator.
I just leave mine on all the time. Never know when you might get caught in the rain, and it doesn't hurt a thing. Kinda like the looks better with it on anyway.

Good to know. I just purchased this for my '13 fxdb.
Maybe that sock's purpose is block rain drops to directly hit paper/textil in filter. Imagine rain drops' impact strenght when they hit filter in high speed.
I commute 50 miles one way no matter the weather. I was going through heavy rain without the sock on....bike bucked and didn't like it at all. Ran through heavy rain with the sock on no issues at all.
It isn't about if the filter gets wet, it's about stopping large amounts of water going through all at once. The filter can be wet, small drops can get through....the engine atomizes them just fine. Hell, water injection is a thing in Racing!!' Its when LARGE amounts get through all at once that you could have an issue. The sock helps prevent that. In my opinion at least. Definitely doesn't hurt to run it.
