Default Fat Bob Question

Hi all,

Just collected a new Fat Bob, and found a box on the lower front frame, that doesn't even appear on the Harley website. In the pic, it's just below the voltage regulator. Dealer told me it was something to do with fuel vapour, but didn't really know!

Can anyone else enlighten me as to what it is, and what it does?

Thanks!

Congrats on your FB! Harley owners here in CA, USA, are only too familiar with that "box." It's for routing fuel vapors that escape from the tank back into the intake for burning for the purpose of lowering emissions. Most guys delete the canister as soon as they get the bike home from the dealer, but let your conscience be your guide. Ride safe!

99% sure it's a fuel vapor canister. One tube comes from the gas tank vent under your dash console and the other tube goes to the intake manifold. I'm not sure what exactly it's supposed to do but the fuel vapor that would escape from a vented gas cap is drawn through that thing back into the intake to be burned. The ones I've seen are all round, so they've either HD changed the shape, or that's the Euro version, or maybe after-market.

Thanks both. That's a more detailed explanation than the dealer gave me! Let's see if HD come up with an alternative to their tool bag that now won't fit down there...!

FWIW, "Vented" HD Gas caps don't vent OUT, they vent IN...regardless whether they have a canister or not
