Default Throttle Assembly Help

I'm in the process of changing the bars on my 2006 FDXI. I'm installing new throttle cables and hit kind of a snag. I noticed a small black rectangular plastic piece about the size of penny fell out of the throttle housing when I was removing the cables from the handlebars. I doesn't appear to be broken off anything, any help identifyig this would be greatly appreciated. My second question, please forgive my ignorance, by the way. What is the star shaped adjuster on the bottom of the handlebar throttle housing. does it simply tighten the housing onto the handle bar? Thank you in advance for any guidance. i have a service manual on the way, but i kind of got ahead of myself.

for any guidance!

Star is throttle lock. A few threads on this. It tightens the throttle...some have used it as a form of cruise control. Just did my cables. Not sure on the rectangle piece. I can check tomorrow if no one knows.

That looks like the little "friction" block that sits on top of the throttle lock (star wheel) you asked about. As you rotate the wheel one way the rubbing block presses against the throttle sleeve to lock the throttle; turning the wheel the opposite direction unlocks the throttle. See diagram, part #11 -

thank you, much appreciated!

Does anyone know if it normally comes loose? I have not heard of this piece being mentioned in all of the throttle cable install videos I have watched or all the past threads I have been searching.

That is part number 56396-74A it's called the friction spring but it's a piece of solid plastic. If you get an aftermarket one it's thin metal and a spring and it's horrible and will never work properly. Get an OEM part if you ever lose and need to replace it. Nothing holds it on its loose and rests on top between the throttle and the clip on the screw.

It will drop out every time you open up the throttle case there if your not careful. Its not fixed, just sandwiched between the star screw and the base of the throttle grip inside the housing.
