hey guys, I recently switched from forward controls to mids. after riding for about an hour, I looked down to see I was leaking oil from the shifter shaft hole on my primary. any ideas on why it would be leaking? it isn't a lot of oil, it kind of looks like excess is draining from the hole............nevermind guys, please do not reply to this thread. I found the answers I needed on an older one.

Greetings from Claremont! Have you ridden to Mount Baldy Village yet?
I changed from mid controls to forwards, but left the cross shaft in place (crosses thru the inside of the primary) without cutting it off ....anyway, just curious , when you had forward controls what was covering the cross shaft, like a cap or anything? What year is your bike? Street Bob?

There is a pop in plug for the outer I think... I did it clean by removing the inner primary, and replacing it with a chromed piece off of a softail ( no hole for mids ), then cut a piece of gasket material for the outer's hole, and the aforementioned chrome plug. I may eventually swap my outer for a chrome unit from a WG.
Nice bike ! I can see and appreciate the many hours and planning. You must have had a vision of what you wanted and worked towards the vision one mod at a time Very unique motorcycle
Make sure you've got a primary cover gasket for mid mounts, it seals the shaft between the inner and outer primary cases. That's the only place it can leak from memory.
Check for the same thing happened to me when I retrofit my 09 FXDL... double check you have a "tower gasket" in the correct place.
When I took everything apart it went flying into an oil pan i had below the primary and never knew it was there...until everyrhing leaked after installation.
