Have you checked kuryakyn - I know they sell fork braces. Incidentally, I just installed the SE brace on mine as well as put in heavier springs. Makes a big difference in handling. Mine arent chrome forks though.
Try this company, www.superbrace.com they have a great customer service department and should be able to help you. I had one of their braces on my '04 WG (without chrome sliders) and I loved it. Nice quality and an easy install.
J&P Cycles catalog shows the Kuryakyn "Fork Skins"....part # 230-326 for 2000-2003 FXDWG. Basically this kit is a fork brace with integral chrome covers for the forks. The pic looks good.......and I may even try them on my 03 LowRider. I don't recall you mentioning what year your FXDWG is though.
Says about 20 min. to install...cost is $194.99. I think the SE brace for my Low is around $90. The Kuryakyn option may not be a bad alternative. Does say that they only work on unshrouded front ends.
Mine's an '04. I ordered the Kuryakyn brace yesterday and hope to have it by Friday so I'll see if that works.
I did notice that it says cannot be used with "shrouds", but I'm not sure what that is unless it's what I think of shrouds to be - the plastic fronts. Hopefully they don't mean chrome sliders.
Sent the Kuryakyn back and ordered 1 from Super Brace. They say it will work. Taking the bike in Friday to have the brace installed and also to get the easy pull clutch.
As an update - the Super Brace has to go back. It didn't fit either. I really really wonder why HD makes/sells chrome sliders, but doesn't make a brace that will fit them.
