I have a 2012 FXDC that occasionally will idle roughly, reminds me of a car that is missing, upon stopping. It happens at random times and will happen for 3-4 red lights in a row then not do it again for a day or two. It does not act like it is going to stall. The idle RPMs will stay at approx 1100 with a "miss" for maybe 10-15 seconds then smooth out and idle falls to 850-900. I am not throwing any codes except the low front O2 sensor, not new, and front turn signal circuits open, been removed. It is more of an annoyance than anything. Any ideas?
First place to look is the IAC, the intake air controller. That IAC moves back and forth and if you're venting hot, oily, crankcase gasses back in to your A/C that critter will get dirty and not work properly, and your idle problem is how it starts.
You need to remove the A/C and clean the IAC. It's located about 12 o'clock, you'll see the opening when you remove the A/C. I've always used carb cleaner; I am venting crankcase gasses to atmosphere and clean that IAC 2 times a year.
Check out this video, it will help you see what you need to do. Turn on the ignition and turn the run/stop switch off and on as you spray the cleaner in to the IAC opening...
I have the same problem with my 2010 Limited but the IAC doesn't seem to be located in the same place as the bike in the above video, anyone have any suggestions for me?
