I have ordered the Powervision and Road Rage pipe. Also got the air charger air cleaner.
right on. Shoulda got a fatcat lol just kiddin. Anyway with an exhaust like the road rage, you should expect some decel popping even with the tune. Your temp should still drop a little, but you'd be best off having a dyno tune. Unless you have plans for future mods, in which case id say hold off. The power vision has a tune specifically for the road rage. I hope you bought it from fuel moto. I should have mentioned this earlier, but fm has such a large tune database that you should have tunes for most modifications available. I made the mistake of gettin my pv from the HD dealer so I was **** out of luck for tunes. Anyway, sounds like you're on your way. Good choices on upgrades/tuner.
Yesterday I went for a ride for about an hour. 79 degrees F weather. Behind the light my Dakota Digital alert went off at over 300. It reached 320 at one point.
I am using Valvoline in engine. Bike has 700 miles on it. Street Bob
I plan to change the oil with full synthetic Mobil1.
How high is too high for 103?
TinCup posted a couple of links with some great info in it.
Here is an excerpt from one of the links that directly addresses your question.
Our target temperatures are: Engine Temperature, as measured by the factory sensor & then displayed by the PV as "ET". 230* F everyday riding, with no more than 250* F in extreme circumstances. (at 270* F you will feel the sluggishness in power, and accelerated engine wear begins)
Oil temperatures, as measured in the oil tank or the sump: 230* F everyday riding, with no more than 260* F in extreme circumstances. (at 270* F you will feel the sluggishness in power, and damage is occurring to the oil and there is accelerated engine wear)
Thanks for info DK, but I find it hard to believe 260 is extreme.
Last night in cool weather I went for a ride and I got 245. Most people dont monitor their temperature, but if they do I am pretty sure they get to 260 every time.

Not always; at the temperatures you quoted in your first post, 79° ambient, I see 225° - 227°. This is about taking steps to keep the engine cool. Remember, the single sensor sits in a sweet spot, HD saw to that
We've had some +90° days the last few weeks; the highest I saw on the Power Vision was 234° while riding.
Get it down in the cooler temperatures of fall and I'll be running 205° - 217°...
Kudos on the switch to Mobil1 but why does a bike with 700 miles on it have Valvoline Oil in it?
Also make sure you are using Mobil1 V-Twin 20/50 NOT some other grade.
I changed the oil around 300 miles. I had plan to put in synthetic Redline but Redline said wait till after 2000 miles so the rings settle first. So I got the regular valvoline.
First time I changed the oil there were some tiny shreds of metal on the magnet. This next time when I put in mobil1 there were non.
Walmart carries mobil1 so instead of Redline I just went and grabbed some right away because after the overheating I didnt want any of that oil in the engine.

Thanks,
I bought the PV on ebay, it was over $100 cheaper. Dont they let you download tunes off their website for free?
Crazy... I regularly see engine temps of 290+ despite having both a fan assisted oil cooler and some wards fans (albeit the fans right now seem to run in the rear cylinder but not the front until I turn off the engine, weird).
