And what does it mean? Sorry, didn't have to deal with problems of this nature before
The motor is having some detonation / engine knock.. Just like on cars. Best way to avoid detonation is not lug the motor and start out in the right gear..
+1
Need more info. It would help to know what motor you have, how old it is, mods, etc.

Could be this. Stock drive train and push rods even though cams have changed. When I spoke to the folks at Andrews, they mentioned that I'd be better off going to adjustable rods even though stock would be in the ball park.
I'm sure that robbyville is right on the money... Pushrod length and lifter preload are measured down to hundredths of an inch... The likelihood that OEM pushrods are the exact optimum length after a cam swap seems remote... I bet that a set of properly setup adjustable pushrods will cure your issue. Here's a graphic that explains some of the things that require pushrod length to be adjusted:
Starting off in 2nd is probably causing some ping or pre-detonation or even the compensator (knocking noise) doing what it's supposed to do under a load. Not for the clutch either having to slip it to get moving.
Interesting. I have woods lifters, adjustable pushrods and woods 555 cams.
I have this valvtrain clatter if for example I left bike in 2nd gear on light and accelerating. Not all the time, need to pay more attention and make some notes
well, i talked to the nice folks at fuel moto. they think it's my lifters starting to go flat. they say it does happen from time to time and they should be fine as long as they get no worse on start up until i change them after riding season. everyone here has been very helpful directing me to the problem.and with all advice considered I'm going with new woods lifters and fuel moto push rods. awl right, new mods....
I had lifter bleed down real bad on my 96" Road King when I was using synthetic that went away after I started using regular conventional. I even replaced the stock pushrods with SE adjustable tightened up pretty tight to no avail. It took 3-400 miles before it went away. I came to the conclusion Vtwins don't like synthetic oil.....you'll need to make that determination on your own.
